Space House played host to a full afternoon of workshops and panel sessions featuring some of the sharpest minds in blockchain research.
We welcomed DeTaP, the first-ever Workshop on Decentralisation: Theory and Practice. It was led by Professor Carmine Ventre of King's College London through our KCL partnership, with researchers from the University of Edinburgh shaping the programme and HB Reavis sponsoring.
Blockchain's big promise is that no single company or person is in charge. But how do you prove it? Nobody fully agrees what "decentralised" means, let alone how to measure it.
Experts in computing, economics and law tackled it from every angle:
- Measuring it: can you put a number on how decentralised a system really is?
- Infrastructure: who actually controls the machines that keep these networks running?
- Governance: when an online community runs itself, who makes the calls, and who's accountable?
Speakers came from LSE, Imperial, Kyoto University and beyond, and live polls kept the room debating, not just listening.
Space House is built for conversations like this: ideas that will shape business and technology, argued out in person.
