Imagine it. A brutalist tower descends into chaos as social order falls apart, floor by floor. This dystopian scenario was the basis of JG Ballard's 1975 novel High Rise. It was adapted into a movie in 2015 and was screened at Space House this month.
Coincidentally, the novel came out the same year Space House welcomed its first ever workers: the Civil Aviation Authority.
Ballard's book was for a long time something of a cult favourite and only adapted into a movie in 2015 as a psychological thriller with an all-star cast featuring Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller and Tom Hiddleston.
The wonderful Rebel Reel Cine Club organised the screening, choosing Space House as the ideal venue. With a cosy set up in the Clubhouse, things started with a DJ set on the rooftop by DJ Kosmos inspired by the film, followed by a Q&A and the film then rolled as the lights dimmed.
